On March 1, 2008 the United States Mint introduced a new coin series - the Bald Eagle Collection that is a tribute to the bird that has become the symbol of the United States. The start of the series also coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 that helped the eagle thrive in its natural habitat. This Silver Dollar was struck in .900 pure silver.
The obverse of the Silver Dollar portrays a mature Bald Eagle in flight while the reverse shows the original rendition of the Great Seal of the United States that was in use from 1782 to 1841. Each of these coins comes in a clear plastic holder to help preserve its condition. And fitted into a custom velvet lined case for beautiful display or presentation as a cherished gift.
