Burnished Coins are hand-loaded into the coining press and struck on specially burnished blanks, yet have a soft, matte-like finish appearance. These coins are made like circulating coins (which are used everyday as money), but with a special process that produces a brilliant finish.
Burnished coins are easy to recognize due to there aperance They appear more satin, with a slight frost and are easy to differentiate when compared side by side with bullion uncirculated coins. Bullion uncirculated coins have a uniform surface finish that's neither matte nor very shiny. All burnished coins to Date from the U.S. Mint carry the “W” mint mark and are struck at the West Point Mint with the exception of The 2011-S Burnished Uncirculated American Silver Eagle which was produced as part of the 5 pc ASE set commemorating the 25th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle series.
