Ultimate Kennedy Half Dollar Collection

The ultimate collection of all 142 Kennedy Half Dollars struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and the San Francisco Mint in Proof condition, from the first coins in 1964 to the limited edition coins in 2007.  Every coin in the series in included.

The Kennedy Half Dollar is the most popular U.S. coin among collectors around the world.  It was first minted in early 1964, just weeks after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  The reverse depicts the Presidential coat of arms.

Since 1964, the Kennedy Half Dollar has been minted for circulation at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints - although not at both Mints in every year.  There have been a total of 80 coins struck from the first in 1964 to 2007, and this collection includes all 80 coins.  All 80 coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

In addition, the Kennedy Half Dollar has been minted nearly every year as a Proof at the San Francisco Mint.  Proof coins are unlike regular U.S. coins, because they are struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images.  They look very different from regular U.S. coins, and because of the extra time it takes to strike each coin, only a limited number of Proof coins are produced each year. . This collection includes every Kennedy Half Dollar minted as a Proof.  The 1964 Proof coin was struck at Philadelphia but all later Proofs, starting in 1968 (none were made 1965-1967), were struck in San Francisco.  The 1964 coin was struck in 90% silver, while the 1968-1970 coins were made in 40% silver.

No coins were made in 1975, but the 1976 coin is the special one-time-only bicentennial issue with the dual date "1776-1976" and Independence Hall on the reverse.  The San Francisco Mint actually struck two different Proofs in 1976 - the copper-nickel Proof, and the 40% silver Proof. From 1977 to 2007, the San Francisco Mint produced a regular copper- nickel Kennedy Half Dollar Proof each year.

In 1992, the U.S. Mint introduced a new Kennedy Half Dollar for collectors - a special limited edition Proof coin from the San Francisco Mint in 90% silver.  Each year since 1992, the 90% silver Proof coins have been struck in addition to the regular Proof coins. The Silver Proof is included for each year from 1992 to 2007.
