Long before the Lincoln Cent made its appearance on the scene, the bronze Indian Head Penny was America’s circulating cent for almost 50 years.  Minted from 1864 to 1909, these beautiful coins were in use throughout the Civil War and the turn of the century.  No doubt the Wright Brothers had some in their pocket when they made their first historic flight.
