Official Royal Wedding Legal Tender Gold-Plated Silver Proof Coin

On Friday, April 29, 2011, Westminster Abbey in London hosts the “wedding of the century” when Prince William of Wales marries Catherine Middleton.  This is the biggest and most spectacular event since the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer in 1981.  To commemorate this historic moment in British history, a limited edition Royal Wedding Proof coin has been officially authorized by the Royal Household and the Government.

This stunning coin from Britain’s Royal Mint is produced from .925 silver and then highlighted in 22k gold.  The Royal Mint Proof standard is famous throughout the world – each coin is struck in a dust-free environment and finished by hand.  It depicts Prince William and Catherine Middleton on one side – only the sixth time in history that a double portrait has appeared on British coinage – and features Westminster Abbey and the inscriptions “The Marriage of William and Catherine,” “Westminster Abbey,” and “April 29, 2011” on the reverse. 

Each coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity certifying its precious metal content and limited edition status.  Just 7,500 of these coins are being produced in 22 karat gold plated-silver. Coins are scheduled to be released shortly after the wedding.
