Brilliant Uncirculated 1904 O-Mint Morgan Silver Dollar

The Morgan Silver Dollar is renowned as “the coin of the Wild West.” It was an especially large silver coin that was struck in over 3/4 ounce of pure silver and measured almost 1-1/2 inches in diameter. As a result, it was highly coveted because few coins freely circulated and silver was something that was always sought-after at the time. It was also known affectionately as the “cartwheel” because of its large size.

Production of the Morgan Silver Dollar ended in 1904, so this 1904 brilliant uncirculated coin is truly the last of the “Wild West” Morgans. At that time, New Mexico and Arizona were not states, and many states were sparsely populated (Wyoming had less than 100,000 people, Nevada less than 50,000, and even California’s population measured just 1.5 million). When production of the Morgan Silver Dollar resumed in 1921 for one final year, the Old West had already been tamed.
