2011 Army Commemorative Proof Half Dollar PR70 Grade

The US Army was founded in 1775 and has proudly served our nation for 236 years, protecting and defending our freedom.  Thirty million Americans have served in the Army since the Revolutionary War.  On December 1, 2008, the "United States Army Commemorative Coin Act” was signed into law.  It authorized the minting of $5 gold, $1 silver and half-dollar clad coins symbolizing the traditions and history of the Army.

We arranged for the very best of these coins to be immediately graded and the coin offered here has been independently certified by ANACS as in perfect Proof 70 condition.  What’s more, the coin has a Deep Cameo finish – the highest level of Proof quality available.  As a result, this is a truly gem coin that literally can not be improved upon.  Proof coins are struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images.  They look very different from regular U.S. coins and are the rarest and highest quality coins possible from the United States Mint.

Only a very limited number of these coins were available on the first day of issue and just a fraction of those were certified as an “Inaugural Strike" release.  Even fewer were also graded in PR70 condition.  Just 157 PR70 Inaugural Strike coins are available.  They are encapsulated in a tamper-proof holder to protect their condition for the future and to preserve the Inaugural Strike certification.
