2010 Silver Proof Set in Original Mint Packaging 

The 2010 United States Mint Proof Set contains 14 coins, each bearing the "S" mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco. Included in this set are four Presidential $1 Coins honoring past Presidents of the United States: Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln; five quarter-dollar coins honoring National Parks: Hot Springs, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Mt. Hood; the new Lincoln One Cent Coin bearing the union shield; a new Native American $1 Coin; and the Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half-dollar. The Roosevelt dime, Kennedy half-dollar, and the quarters contained in the United States Mint Silver Proof Set are minted in a 90 percent silver alloy.

Each year, the U.S. Mint makes a small edition of Proof coins. Proofs are the highest quality possible, and they are also the rarest. Unlike regular U.S. coins, Proofs undergo a specialized minting process which begins by manually feeding coin blanks into presses fitted with special dies. The coins are then struck multiple times so the softly frosted yet detailed images seem to float above a mirror-like field. Proofs look very different from regular coins - and because of the extra time it takes to strike each one, only a limited number of are produced each year. They are never made again.
