The 2010 United States Mint Proof Set contains 14 coins, each bearing the "S" mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco.  Included in this set are four Presidential $1 Coins honoring past Presidents of the United States: Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln; five quarter-dollar coins honoring National Parks: Hot Springs, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Mt. Hood; the new Lincoln One Cent Coin bearing the union shield; a new Native American $1 Coin; and the Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half-dollar.

In addition to regular coins, the U.S. Mint also makes a small edition of Proof coins each year. The Proofs are the highest quality possible, and they are also the rarest.

Proof coins are unlike regular U.S. coins, because they undergo a specialized minting process, which begins by manually feeding coin blanks into presses fitted with special dies.  The coin is struck multiple times so the softly frosted, yet detailed images seem to float above a mirror-like field.  Proofs look very different from regular coins - and because of the extra time it takes to strike each coin, only a limited number of Proof coins are produced each year. They are never made again.  These coins are also DCAM - Deep Cameo.  A deep cameo coin has a spectacular mirrored background and deeply frosted images.  The contrast is dramatic.  The raised areas are frosted that they will appear white while the background appears to be black.

All coins are graded on a 70-point scale, with 70 being absolute perfection.  It is very difficult to find a coin in perfect Proof-70.  Amazingly, each coin in this collection is in perfect PR70 condition.  The coins are graded by ANACS, an independent third party grading company.  Each of the coins is encapsulated in a tamper-proof holder to protect its condition for the future.

What's more, these coins are certified to be Inaugural Strike.  The fact that each are also a perfect PR70 DCAM coin means that it is one of the rarest and most sought-after of all 2010 proof sets.  The combination of Inaugural Strike, DCAM and PR70 make it a collector's treasure.  However, only 149 sets are available.  When they are gone, no more coins can be certified as Inaugural Strike.
