2009 Territory and DC Silver & Clad Quarters Collection
Here's a unique set of quarters for your collection—the 2009 Silver and Clad Proof DC and Territorial State Quarters. You receive 2 complete sets of proof quarters; 1 set is made of .900 pure silver and the other set is copper-nickel clad.
The 2009 coins depict the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories: the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Proof coins are available only in original Proof Sets from the United States Mint. Unlike regular Quarters, the individual coins are not sold by the United States Mint and are not released into circulation. Proof coins are up to 500 times rarer than the Brilliant Uncirculated coins. The six proof coins struck in .900 pure silver are up to 2000 times rarer than the Brilliant Uncirculated coins.
Proof coins are unlike regular US coins because they are struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images. They look very different from regular U.S. coins - and because of the extra time it takes to strike each coin, only a limited number of Proof Sets are produced each year. They are never made again.
