2009 Native American Satin Dollar 20 Coin P-D Mint Roll
This is a roll of 20 2009 Native American Dollars, 10 from the Philadelphia Mint and 10 from the Denver Mint. Satin Finish coins are available only in official United States Mint Sets. They are not sold individually, so the only way to acquire the 2009 Satin Finish coins is to break open the original United States Mint Set. This roll of coins was assembled from multiple 2009 United States Mint Sets.
In 2005, the United States Mint made a radical change to the United States Mint Set. Instead of using regular Uncirculated coins, it created special coins exclusively for the United States Mint Sets. The coins have a special Satin finish, and they are available only in United States Mint Sets. No Satin finish coins are released into circulation or are made available individually. Satin Finish coins look different from regular coins because the dies are sandblasted with a fine mixture of sand and glass beads. They are very distinctive.
2009 represents the first-year-of-issue in the new Native Amnerican Dollar Series. First Year of Issue coins are always considered the "key" coins in any collection. Beginning in 2009 the United States Mint struck these coins featuring designs celebrating the important contributions made by Native American tribes and individual Native Americans to the history and development of the United States. The obverse design remains the central figure of the "Sacagawea" design first produced in 2000 and contains the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse design changes each year to celebrate an important contribution of Indian tribes or individual Native Americans and contain the inscriptions $1 and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Like the Presidential $1 Coins the Native American $1 Coins maintain their distinctive edge and golden color and feature edge-lettering of the year mint mark and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Sacagawea was the Native American guide who accompanied the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804-1806 on their quest to find a route to the Pacific Ocean. Without her knowledge of the land the expedition would have failed and America's westward expansion would have been delayed for many years. The coin depicts Sacagawea with her baby Jean Baptiste on her back. Every year with feature a new reverse design.
