2008 Bald Eagle Silver Dollar Proof and Half Dollar Set

On March 1, 2008 the United States Mint introduced a new coin series - the Bald Eagle Collection that is a tribute to the bird that has become the symbol of the United States. The start of the series also coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 that helped the eagle thrive in its natural habitat. This 2-coin first-year 2008 set includes the clad Half Dollar and the Silver Dollar struck in .900 pure silver.

The obverse of the Silver Dollar portrays a mature Bald Eagle in flight while the reverse shows the original rendition of the Great Seal of the United States that was in use from 1782 to 1841.

The obverse of the Half Dollar coin depicts a nest with two baby eaglets and an unhatched egg; the reverse features the famous eagle "Challenger" with the American flag in the background.

Each of these coins comes in its own clear plastic holder to help preserve its condition. And both are fitted into a custom velvet lined case for beautiful display or presentation as a cherished gift.
