1973-1978 US Mint Proof Sets
This is a key set in any collection of U.S. Mint Proofs. It’s a complete collection of Proof Sets featuring the Clad Eisenhower Dollar, from 1973 to 1978. Each set is untouched and in original government packaging. The coins were all struck at the San Francisco Mint and bear the “S” mint mark. Proofs are the highest quality coins produced by the U.S. Mint. Each coin is struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images. Proof coins are not released into circulation; they are produced in very small quantities and are made available only to collectors.
The Eisenhower Dollar was America’s last large-size Dollar coin ever minted for circulation. Since the last coin was minted in 1978, it has been replaced with the small-size Susan B. Anthony Dollar and is now a long-gone piece of American coinage history that becomes more and more sought after with each passing year.
This collection also contains the special 1976 Bicentennial Proof Set that includes one-time-only Quarter, Half Dollar, and Dollar reverse designs celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The Dollar‘s reverse is the Liberty Bell superimposed on the moon. Except for the dual dating, 1776-1976, the obverses remained unchanged.
