1926 Oregon Trail Silver Half Dollar

In 1843, nearly a thousand settlers ventured out on a journey of over 2,000 miles along the Oregon Trail which winded its way through what would later become six U.S. states: Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon.  Congress later authorized a half dollar coin to "commemorate the heroism of our fathers and mothers who traversed the Oregon Trail to the far west with great hardship, daring, and loss of life, which not only resulted in adding new states to the Union, but earned a well-deserved and imperishable fame for the pioneers."

This .900 fine silver masterpiece is widely regarded as the most beautiful U.S. commemorative coin.  The obverse features a map of the United States and an Indian standing with a bow and outstretched arm. The reverse design shows a Conestoga wagon drawn by oxen heading into a setting sun. The intricacy of the artwork, along with the coin’s well-preserved AU (About Uncirculated) condition, makes this coin a must-have in anyone’s collection of vintage American coinage.   These coins have been preserved for over 80 years in well-detailed About Uncirculated condition.
